Man/Woman/Chainsaw is a south London-based band that blend art-punk and orchestral elements. They are Billy Ward (vocals, guitars), Emmie-Mae Avery (vocals, keys/synths), Vera Leppänen (vocals, bass), Clio Starwood (violin) and Lola Cherry (drums). The band cite influences from the DIY experimental scene such as Black Country, Black Midi and New Road. Their band name is derived from a book on horror cinema titled Men, Women, and Chainsaws. Starting out just as a fun project, the band have now played over a hundred gigs in and around London. They also played at the 2025 South by Southwest festival (SXSW) in Austin, Texas.

The band’s debut EP, Eazy Peazy, was released on Fat Possum Records in November 2024. It includes the tracks ‘The Boss’, ‘Sports Day’, ‘Maegan’, ‘Ode To Clio, Grow a Tongue in Time’ and ‘EZPZ’. British newspaper The Guardian reviewed the EP favourably, citing the band as “one to watch”.

In August 2024, the band played a notable set at the Green Man Festival in Wales.

And here’s ‘The Boss’ live at The George Tavern in October 2024:
