“Evil Eye” is the new song and music video from Pinkshift. It was co-directed by Sihan Xu and the band themselves.
Pinkshift is an American alt-rock band. It consists of core members lead vocalist Ashrita Kumar, guitarist Paul Vallejo, and drummer Myron Houngbedji. The band formed in Baltimore, Maryland, in 2019, after the trio met at Johns Hopkins University. Their music has been described as pop-punk with “elements of grunge and alt-rock”. They cite Nirvana, Arctic Monkeys, and No Doubt as musical influences.
Pinkshift’s initially began to gain wider exposure in 2020. Their second single, “i’m gonna tell my therapist on you”, went viral on Reddit. The band has since released three EPs, Saccharine (2021), Suraksha (2023), and love me for the summer (with caco) (2024). Meanwhile, their debut album, Love Me Forever, was released in 2022.
The band has used their musical platform to advocate for racial diversity. They also support freedom for Palestine. They promote gender inclusivity because Ashrita Kumar identifies as non-binary.
